I am a student at Wilfrid Laurier University, majoring in the saxophone. Over recent years, I've had the opportunity to work and volunteer in an elementary school setting with students aged 3 - 13, focusing on music education. This experience has inspired me to further my education in the art of music teaching, and I hope to one day have a music classroom of my own. I've played and performed with several ensembles over the years, starting with a marching band when I was 10, then my school bands leading into high school, where I was introduced to the concert band and jazz band. Later, I was invited to play with three other groups in my community, including the local community concert band, a travel show band, and an army regiment band. Each of these ensembles provided me with opportunities and experiences that I can apply when teaching future students. When teaching music, I believe that my aspiring students should feel comfortable and welcomed in the environment they're in. Creating this kind of environment nurtures the right conditions for students to thrive without feeling judged or pressured to reach certain expectations by a certain date. When I'm not studying or playing music, I enjoy playing online video games, reading, or spending quality time outdoors with my friends and family. Cooking for others is also one of my favourite pastimes as well. For woodwinds, drums, and guitar, I design individualized curriculums tailored to each student’s musical interests and learning style. This personalized approach allows me to connect with students across various disciplines and help them grow confidently in any ensemble or solo setting. As a performer, I’ve appeared in theatres, music halls, and churches.
