I am a brass player, currently pursuing my Bachelor of Music degree (music education and jazz studies program) at the University of Toronto. My major instrument is the trombone, and I also teach trumpet, euphonium, baritone, and tuba. I started out performing in concert bands and other school ensembles, continuing my development throughout the pandemic by spending time with the Etobicoke Jazz Band, Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra, and as lead trombonist with the Toronto All-Star Big Band. In 2021, I was accepted into the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and was awarded the Noreen and Phil Nimmons Entrance Scholarship in Jazz Performance. I now perform in and around the GTA with the U of T Jazz Orchestra and various other school ensembles, in addition to my own freelance work ranging from duo to big band settings. I am also a composer and arranger, performing original compositions with small ensembles, the U of T 12tet, and the U of T Hybrid Ensemble.
\n\n
As an aspiring band teacher, I am committed to spreading the joy of music through performance and education. In addition to studying music pedagogy at the university, I am honing my teaching skills by volunteering in high school music classes and teaching private lessons. I work most often with beginner and intermediate brass players, helping students build their brass playing fundamentals (posture, breathing, sound production, articulation, and range, to name a few) to help them play the music they want to play - whether it be music for their school ensembles or anything else they’re interested in. I believe that a lifelong enjoyment of music is the most important thing I can help students develop through their lessons, so I collaborate with my students to set challenging goals while keeping the music fun.
\n\n
Aside from my academic and musical endeavours, I enjoy pursuing my other interests as well.
