What the rate includes
Private one-on-one music lessons in-home and online with instructors who are vetted, university-educated, and vulnerable-sector checked. In-home rates include the instructor's travel to your home; there is no facility fee because there is no facility to pay for. Lessons happen where you live, on your own instrument.
What moves the price
Four things: lesson length, format (in-home carries a $5-15 travel premium over online), the instructor's credentials (conservatory training and RCM examiner status sit at the higher end), and your city. Specialized tracks such as advanced RCM exam preparation can also carry a premium. Yes. Your first 30-minute lesson is free, in-home or online. It's a real lesson with the instructor you'd continue with, not a sales call: you play, you meet the teacher, and you decide afterwards whether to continue.
Why do in-home lessons cost more than online lessons?
An in-home rate builds in the instructor's travel time to and from your home, typically a $5 to $15 premium per lesson. In exchange your family saves the round trip, and for households with more than one student taking back-to-back lessons, in-home is often the cheaper option end to end.
What lesson length should a beginner choose?
Thirty minutes is usually right for children under about 10, whose focus fades before an hour is up. Forty-five minutes suits most school-age students and anyone preparing for RCM exams. Sixty minutes fits teens, adults, and advanced study. Your instructor will tell you honestly if a different length would serve you better.
Are there any extra fees on top of the lesson rate?
The lesson rate is the price. There is no facility fee because lessons happen in your home or online. Instruments are the main additional cost for beginners, and your instructor will help you find a rental or starter instrument rather than pushing you toward an expensive purchase.
