Write your own song in six weeks.
Every Rockstar student can write an original song with their teacher. Sign up now and start right away: six steps, from the first idea to a finished track with its own cover, one a week or faster. Then we release them all together at our online release party on December 14.

Six weeks, one song
Week 1 opens the moment you sign up. Each week has one small goal, worked on in your lesson. The weeks are a guide, not a lock: work ahead as fast as you like, even a whole song in week one. Post a quick snapshot of each step in the app from your own login, or your teacher posts it for you in the lesson.

Song or instrumental
Pick the one that fits. Both count the same.
Song
Words and a melody. Sing it yourself or have a friend sing it.
Instrumental
Your own melody or piece, on any instrument. No lyrics needed.
The rules
- Originals only: no covers. This is about writing your own song.
- Two categories: Song (with words) and Instrumental (your own melody or piece). Drummers, pianists and shy singers can all take part.
- One song per student. Siblings or friends can write together and enter as one song.
- Your teacher guides, you write. Three minutes at most.
What every artist gets
Release a song, become a Released Artist
Everyone who releases a song gets a Released Artist sweater and a digital pack: their own song page, a certificate and an album card to share.
This is not a contest. There are no judges and no winners: every finished song gets released online and shared on our social media.
Safe for young musicians
- Our office approves every post before anyone else can see it.
- First names only. No last names, schools or faces are needed.
- Parents are told when their child is signed up and can remove them anytime.
- You can ask us to take anything down at any time.
How to sign up
- Open the Rockstar Music app and sign in as a parent.
- Tap the Songwriting Sprint card at the top of Home.
- Tick the permission box, and you're in. You and your teacher pick the song idea in week 1.
Or ask your teacher: they can sign you up in your lesson. No app? Use the Sign up button in our email “Write a song this fall”, or call the office at (647) 526-7625. Signup is open October 26 to November 1.
Questions
Who can take part?
Every Rockstar Music student, at any level and on any instrument. A parent (or you, if you are an adult student) signs up in the family app, or your teacher signs you up in the lesson. When a teacher signs a student up, we tell the parent right away, and one tap removes the student.
Do we have to follow the weeks?
No. Week 1 opens the moment you sign up, and the six weeks are a guide. Work ahead as fast as you like; a whole song in the first week is fine. Everyone releases together at the online release party on December 14.
Does my child have to sing?
No. Pick Instrumental and write your own melody or piece on your instrument. No lyrics needed.
Do we need recording gear?
No. A phone is enough. Week five is for the final take, and your teacher will help you get it right.
Is there a winner?
No. It is not a contest and there are no judges. Every student who releases a song gets a Released Artist sweater, their own song page, a certificate and an album card to share.
Where can people hear the songs?
On December 14 every finished song is released together at our online release party. Each one gets its own page on rockstarmusic.ca, and we share them on our social media.
What goes online?
Only what the office approves: the song, the cover, a short liner note and the weekly steps, with the student's first name. No last names, schools or faces are needed, and you can ask us to take anything down.
