I love helping students build their own connection to music in a way that feels meaningful and enjoyable for them. My main instrument is clarinet and I specialise on bass clarinet, but I also love teaching flute, saxophone, ukulele, piano, and recorder. Over the past 25 years I’ve taught individual lessons, small groups and full classroom music programs, and I’ve directed chamber ensembles, bands and orchestras. I enjoy seeing students discover what they’re capable of, no matter their level or background. I hold an undergraduate degree in Music Performance from the University of British Columbia, performance diplomas from the Vancouver Academy of Music and Concordia University, and a master’s degree in Arts Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths, University of London. While I started my own musical journey in traditional classical music, I’ve since expanded into contemporary classical, improvisation, jazz, Balinese gamelan and more. I enjoy stepping outside my comfort zone and diving into new areas of music where I get to be a beginner again, and then using the new skills to enrich my teaching practice. Every student brings something different to the lesson, and I’m especially interested in learning what you want out of music - whether that’s working toward an exam, learning your favourite movie or pop songs, or diving into improvisation. My goal is to make lessons engaging, flexible, and fun, while helping you build strong musical skills and confidence along the way.
